Author's Word: Memories and Attachment to Novi Bečej

I must immediately apologize to readers for emphasizing and perhaps overstating my attachment to my homeland in each of my books where I recount my memories. I have no other explanation except that my childhood, youth, and the abundance of experiences from that time have been crucial in my elderly creative endeavors. The landscapes, fields, meadows, and the inhabitants, in particular, are the world of my modest artistic and literary creations.

In an attempt to encompass as many events and personalities as possible with this book, assuming it might be the last I publish, I may have overloaded it with diverse themes. In an effort to somewhat synthesize or, better yet, organize this, I divided the book into three parts. The first primarily contains memoirs; the second, historical and research material; and the third, memorials from the Novi Bečej and Vranjevo cemetery. Readers can judge how well I managed to harmonize this heterogeneity.
