Živa was among the most prominent curriers from Novi Bečej and Vranjevo. Every market day, he displayed his goods, as others did, so he shouldn’t be singled out for that. However, despite his modest education, he was an exceptional figure in the cultural life of Novi Bečej. He early on recognized the cultural lag of the Serbian people compared to the Germans and Hungarians.

Dr. Konstantin Kosta Vukov was born in 1909 in Kumani, into the respected and esteemed Vukov family. His father, Jovan, was known for his diligence and respected position in the community, while his mother Jelena was the pillar of the household and the embodiment of traditional Vojvodina values.

With a great delay, I have begun to write my memories and reminiscences of my homeland, after many dear and respected fellow citizens have passed away, including my closest friends. Today, there are only a few friends left from my youth; all the others have long since died. I often remember some of them and always keep them in my thoughts, but that is no consolation. I feel - as I read in an old story - like a bird that has fallen behind its flock. My flock has long since begun to fly away and has flown away.
