On September 25, 2008, a gathering was organized for residents, their relatives, and guardians. Similar events had been held in previous years, but what was new this time was that the psychiatry department acted as the host for all guests, regardless of which department their relatives or wards were housed in.
The decision to hold the gathering in a single location allowed us to combine our efforts and create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Preparations for the event included inviting relatives and guardians, confirming their attendance, and days of anticipation for the residents, filled with the lingering question: *“Will my loved ones come?”*
On the night before the event, sleep evaded the residents' rooms. Even the sunrise seemed delayed, hesitant to appear over the rooftops of the home. Finally, the morning arrived. Breakfast was quickly eaten, and the final preparations to welcome the guests were made.
To the immense joy of the residents, and much to our delight, a large number of relatives and guardians responded to the invitation.
Hugs, kisses, gifts—everything radiated positive energy. Even some residents who had not been visited in years received guests. Some visitors were surprised and even astonished by the quality of accommodation and living conditions provided for their relatives or wards.
Unlike the visitors, the residents eagerly showed their loved ones every corner of their home.
The reception offices, the medical clinic, the living rooms, the dayroom, “My Little Home,” the dining area, and the courtyard all became sites of exploration, pride for the residents, and admiration for those who hadn’t visited in a long time.
In the manner of excellent hosts, refreshments were provided for the guests, followed by a surprise for all attendees. The residents prepared a program for their guests. Songs, recitations, and toasts created an unforgettable welcome for hours of togetherness.
