Novi Bečej is a compact settlement of the Pannonian type. The town’s territory does not have a regular geometric shape but stretches along the Tisa River, following its flow. The widest part of the town extends from the center eastward, reaching the railway station.
The streets of the settlement are straight, wide enough, and parallel to one another, intersecting at right angles. Deviations from this layout occur near the Tisa River valley and the abandoned bed of the Mali Begej. The town center is located close to the riverbank, where all the most important public, commercial, and hospitality facilities are concentrated.
In this part of the town, one can find the old building of the Novi Bečej Municipal Assembly, the House of Culture, schools, a large department store and other significant shops, a cinema, as well as various restaurants and service facilities. A larger square with a park was also developed in the center.
The main residential types are the traditionally built houses “along the road” and “on the ridge.” In addition, modern single-story and multi-story residential buildings are increasingly being constructed, with flower gardens and lawns neatly arranged along the streets. With the construction of apartment buildings, asphalted streets and sidewalks, tree-lined avenues, expanded green areas and flower beds, as well as the installation of modern street lighting, Novi Bečej has increasingly taken on the appearance of a pleasant and modern small town.
